Poems and readings at Hield Gallery

Those unable to come, for whatever reason, to the Hield Gallery on the September 2 missed an evening to be remembered for a long time (writes John Hague).

Author  and poet Paul Aidan Richardson`s 90 minutes entertainment was well worth the admission fee alone, to say nothing of the inclusion in it of a signed copy of one his books and generous portions of cheese and wine!

In an amusing, relaxed and informal delivery, Paul read several of his poems and with anecdotes,  explained the inspiration and thoughts behind their creation. These ranged from his childhood as a vicar`s son, through his love of the sea to his close relationship with the Native American (Indian) people. The poems, which could be used at weddings, anniversaries and funerals were moving and poignant.

It was a fun evening as well as being one that represented feelings that were understandable and identifiable to us all. Pity it was not better supported.

A raffle raised £230 for the Gallery and Church funds.Well done Dobrila Johnson and Unity Hield!

Village Hall extension nears completion

THE  £50,000 extension to the Village Hall is now nearing completion, with the shell complete, and electrical, plumbing and kitchen fittings in hand.

A group of ladies from the VH&PF Committtee will be meeting to choose the colour cheme and pick curtains, but a decision about the furniture is yet to be made.

The new extension, which will not be available for use until all work is complete and the building has been fully insured, will be rented separately from the main hall.

* WORK is expected to start within the next few weeks on the new children's play area, which is sited alongside the bowling green. The area, when complete, will have a dog-proof fence surrounding it.

DOGS are still fouling areas of the Village Playing Fields despite notices advising owners that this is against the by-laws. The Village Hall Committee has announced that it is contacting Harrogate Council to ask them to arrange for dog wardens to patrol the site, and to take action against offending owners.

OUTSIDE:  The shell is now complete.

INSIDE: Awaiting decorating and fitting out.
