How's this for a coincidence?

David Nobbs, TV writer and creator of Reggy Perrin and now preparing the new series for TV,

was on Friday waiting to catch the 09 35am train to London, on his way to  the TV studios.

At York Station he and his wife, Susan, bumped into  Bill and Rosemary Betts who were

waiting for the 10 04am train to pick up EuroStar to go to Paris.

All are members of Bishop Monkton Croquet Club so time for a quick chat about the

intricacies of the half way rule!

On the train home at the end of the weekend David and Susan settled down in seats

E24 and E26 and who do you think was booked into seats E23 and E25 - yes, none other

than Bill and Rosemary back after a fantastic weekend in Paris.

Calculate the chances of that happening, says David.

Getting ready for the new season

Preparations are under way for the new season which starts on Sunday, April 25. The lawns have already received their first cut and been rolled.

Plans are in hand to improve the interior of the clubhouse store and also to tile the roof to comply with planning permission requirements and to enhance its appearance.

It is also planned to add post and chain fencing to delineate the ground area.

A further improvement will be the re-positioning of the two full-size lawns and the addition of a new half lawn at the clubhouse end of the ground.

The first match of the season will br a friendly fun game on Sunday, May 9,  against Bishop Monkton Bowling Club when players from both clubs will play both croquet and bowls, sometimes with some rather comic results!
